Costa del AzaharCosta del Azahar - The Orange
Blossom Coast
Stretching approximately 112 km from Vinaros down to Oliva and
Denia, this relatively uncrowded, unspoilt and most
picturesque Costa has been an extremely popular summer
destination with the Spanish for many years.
Unlike some parts of Spain where temperatures can be
unbearably hot in the summer or winters may be very wet, the
Costa del Azahar with an average temperature of 19 degrees C,
offers a near perfect climate.

Inland from the coast, the mountain scenery is quite
breathtaking; its relative proximity to the Pyrenees affords
easy access to hiking, ski-ing and even white water rafting.
Costa del Azahar is renowned for its almond trees which
burst into flower in the early part of the year and fragrant
orange groves sited along large swathes of the coast.
This Costa boasts some of the most beautiful, flat, sandy
white beaches in Spain; several have natural lagoons where
the water remains warm for most of the year. With a large
number of marinas and yacht clubs scattered the length of
the coast, this area is popular with windsurfers and sailing
enthusiasts.
Many argue that the most attractive part is at the northern
end, above Castellon, around the fishing port towns of
Vinaros, Benicarlo and especially the picturesque Peniscola.
Peniscola, which served as the film set for “El Cid”,
remains a beautiful, historic town with cobbled streets and
white washed houses. Many visitors are attracted to the
large water world park at Benicassim plus this town plays
host to various music festivals throughout the year.
Castellon, the official capital of the provence, is located
65 km north of Valencia and the perfect place to embark on
some serious shopping!
Valencia is the 3rd largest city in Spain and definitely one
worth visiting. Wander around the colourful old Quarter and
enjoy some mouth-watering tapas, or the famous Valenciana
paella. With its state-of-the-art planetarium and laser
show, oceanographic centre, arts and science complex, this
city has benefited from massive investment.
Interest in the Costa del Azahar has risen dramatically over
the past year; this is in part due to the increased ease of
access as several low cost airlines now offer flights into
Reus, Valencia, and Alicante. Valencia will host the
America’s Cup in 2007, sailing’s most prestigious event;
this has helped raise the profile of the whole region and a
new airport close to Castellon is scheduled to open in the
same year.
Whilst property prices are still very affordable, they are
forecast to rise steeply over the next few years. It’s
little wonder that those seeking affordable holiday homes
along with Investor buyers, both domestic and foreign are
now flocking to the Costa del Azahar.
Whether it’s a round of golf, traditional restaurants
serving delicious seafood dishes, a wide choice of water
sports and country activities or a night out at the ballet,
the Orange Blossom Coast caters for every taste and budget.
