Costa Tropical PropertiesCosta Tropical - Sun, Sea, and
History
Stretching 103 km along the coast, south of Granada, the
Costa Tropical is located at the eastern end of Andalucia.
Boasting over 320 days of sunshine per annum and an average
temperature of 20 degrees, its sub tropical climate and
fertile lands enable the cultivation of various exotic
fruits and crops; bananas, kiwis, papayas, avocadoes,
mangoes and sugar cane grow in abundance.
This region with its plethora of white washed villages
and secluded beaches, has retained much of the traditional,
laid back Spanish charm; popular with foreigners and Spanish
alike.

referred to as the tourist capital of the Costa Tropical,
Almunecar enjoys mild winters and long hot summers; rich in
Arabian and Roman history, it’s only 72 km from Granada and
75 km from Malaga. Enjoy “tapas” served in bars along the
esplanade, wander around the cobbled lanes of the attractive
old quarter with its street markets, sample the “custard
apples” or enjoy the wide choice of water sports at
Herradura, a bustling marina to the west of the town.
Salobrena, 20 mins east of Almunecar, is a picturesque
town with charming white washed houses, narrow winding
streets, isolated, mostly deserted beach coves and a
magnificent medieval castle. Motril is the largest,
commercial town on the Coast; with its shops, cheap tropical
fruits and flower markets, the Marina offers a wide choice
of water sports.
Situated just north west of the Sierra Nevada Mountain
range, 40 minutes drive north of Motril, is the beautiful
city of Granada. Enjoy breathtaking views of the snow clad
Sierra Nevada mountain range and valleys beneath, in
particular, Las Alpujarras. Renowned for its walking trails,
Las Alpujarras is one of the most scenic regions in Spain
where ancient villages nestle in the mountainsides on the
southern slopes of the Sierra Nevada.
Like other landmark cities, Granada loves to celebrate -
with a huge fiesta in January, splendid processions in March
and April, elaborate bull fights and other festivities
throughout May and June and several weeks of open air
concerts in the summer. A fascinating place, Granada is
steeped in Moorish history and, many argue, the most
beautiful city in Andalucia.
Here, it really is possible to live the dream, ski or
snowboard on the Sierra Nevada ski slopes and then sunbathe
on the beach in the afternoon!
Local councils are determined the region will remain
unspoilt; whilst development is clearly increasing, tight
building controls help ensure the Costa Tropical retains the
ambience and quintessential charm that has helped make this
area such a popular choice, a region greatly cherished by
locals and foreigners alike. |
